Auke Van Dokkum died on the 27th of May 2018.
He was a master coin gaffer and every (serious) coin magician knew him.
His gaffs were not cheap but were among the best in the world for the incrowd.
He made also, many years ago, with permission from Tommy Wonder, a limited series of  "wallet, watch, ring and money" , "the coin trick with the sock" and "the cups and balls" from Tommy).
He was the first in the world to make a split coin in Morgan format.

A friend from Spain told me about Auke's great products and I never met him or got to buy something from him but he surely will be missed by magicians all over the world.

I spent some time with him at last year's Magic Live and really grew to respect him. He was doing a coin routine at the Steven's Magic booth and whenever anyone would ask how much it cost, he would say "$10,000. It's not for sale." Apparently it was just something he did to bring traffic to a booth. I kept coming around to watch him and eventually I guess he saw I was serious and he gave me a price on it. He didn't have any kind of teaching video on the effect because it was just for special events like that, but he was kind enough to sit with me in his hotel room and let my wife film him from several different angles doing the trick. He walked me through every detail as I did it, and he was never in a hurry. He was such a truly kind man. The magic world lost another great one.

Brian,
He was, as you say, a truly kind man.  Met him at several 4F conventions, and while I'm not a coin guy, it was always a joy just to watch him work or sit and have a bite to eat with him.  Auke was, as I've noted elsewhere, a good, good person who happened to be a good, good magician.

I am saddened by this a great deal. I never met him, though I knew of him. My wife and I make crocheted balls for use in the cups and balls. We distribute through Steven's. After Magic Live last year, in conversation with Mark Stevens, he let me know Auke, after several minutes of scrutiny and toying, had bought a full set. I was honored and a little humbled. Knowing that a man like this was one of our first customers is a point of pride for me; knowing he has passed is a punch to the gut. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved him.

My heart goes out to those of you who knew him. It sounds like he was a great guy who made a positive difference in the lives of many.

By the way, Hex, can you share the link to where we can by the crocheted balls that you and your wife make?

Thanks,

Rudy

Very special (and funny). This with a good pattern... [crazy]

Do not lose sight of the ball, he also keeps an eye on you!
He winked at you, did you not see it?
