Hi Everyone,

I know this is very last minute, but if anyone is able to join me...I've created the opportunity for us to have a Saturday Session tomorrow at 2pm (Pacific)!

If you’re new to the forum, the Saturday Sessions are online video sessions (via Zoom) that allow the members of the Magician’s Forum to come together and share some of the magic that they’ve been working on.

It’s a great way to get to know other members of our community while sharpening you're skills. It’s always a great time!

Please register in advance for this meeting at the following link:
https://zoom.us/meeting/register/e4cddbaeb28e09d27c24e00bf0acd2b8

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Those who attend the session will receive a link to the video recording of our time together.

I hope to see you there!

Rudy

Rudy, would love to make it to this one but our granddaughter just turned one and my daughter is throwing a party for her. I'll be there for the next one.

Signed up, though there is a slight chance that I might have to scoot early. (I'll beg the boss and see what happens!)

Hello Forum Members! A big thanks goes to RUDY for being a “last minute” kind of guy (at least sometimes) and setting up this “last minute” session — as usual some great information and tips were shared among us and we all got to see some very cool magic presented and explained by fellow Forum members. I always leave these sessions knowing more than when I signed in, and I hope all of you will take advantage and join Rudy in future sessions — they are one of the best features of this forum! — johnny

Yes, this was good fun, even if you want to be a goober like me and just sit in without a camera to watch others work through stuff. Thanks to Rudy for hosting and to everyone who participated. Although, if I'm being honest, I'm a little upset that Gareth fooled me with a Charlier cut.

Thanks to Rudy for hosting. It was good to "see" everyone. Good stuff! Sorry, but I had to bounce after the first hour for a prior commitment; no doubt I missed even more good stuff. See you next time.

Ha. It is fun. If you can misdirect the first Charlier and really it should be easy if all attention is on the tabled card reveal it is a fooler, both laymen and magi.

Thanks again Rudy, a brilliant session.

Here's the youtube video of the performance that I referenced after Taylor showed us the disappearing card box. It is James Brown's performance that won him the 2006 Magic Circle close up magician of the year. It is superb.

I'm so sorry to tell you this fellas, but I didn't realize that Zoom doesn't automatically record your meeting unless you check a little box when you create the meeting; a box that I didn't check.

So...all the wonderful things that were shared, weren't recorded [frown]

A frustrating lesson learned the hard way. My apologies to all who attended. It was a fantastic session with lots of wonderful ideas shared.

I'm really glad I was there for the first time.
I had to leave early as it was already 11Pm in France when it started, but it was really nice seeing you guys performing tricks / showing ideas.

Really nice Jazz aces / Hitchcock ending by Mike Powers as far as I can remember.

Looking forward to the next one.

Lucas.

Well that stinks...  The one session I finally get to show stuff...  I'd be happy to show it again at future session.

I will record the stuff I showed and send you a link to send to those that attended.  I will alsotry to get a recording of me perorming the Two Card Trick with live people so you can see the reactions.  Maybe some of the other guys can do the same.  Piece-wise session.

I do appreciate whoever mentioned the Budge in Simply Harkey and Prison Deck.  I think those are good as reference for the stuck-in-box bit I showed.  I think mine was different enough to claim as original, especially since I had no prior influence.

Rudy,

Now that you say it, I seem to remember that in previous sessions with Zoom I could see a red button somewhere saying that the session was being recorded (I think it was over the video area). This time, while I was trying to make my camera work, I saw a gray button that said "Record" but I didn't pay attention to it because I was more worried trying to get the camera working. Probably you could ask the Zoom support team if anyone can record the session and you still get it or if it is recorded just for the person who pushes the button (in the now unlikely situation that you forget to record the session and I am sure you won't forget it now, after this experience).

It was a fun session anyway and I am glad I could participate a little this session, just like I did in the past.

See you next time!

MagicTK,

I am the one who mentioned Joao Miranda's Prison deck, and here it is... you can see some video demos of the deck in action. I am sure it uses a different method than yours.

Tom, I hate it too. Your demos were fun and impressive. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I hope I didn't offend when I mentioned Jenning's Close-Up Illusion. Was only trying to establish lineage!

Definitely not offended.  I greatly appreciate any and all references.   I learned The Submarine Card from another magician many years ago, and showed it solely for the purpose of seeing how I integrated it in the routine that I do.  Kind of giving justification to why I use the jokers and the odd-red-backed queen.

So, is there a difference between the gimmick for the Jennings' routine and I Hate David Copperfield? Not asking for top secret info here, just wondering if there's a significant difference in the gimmick, or if it's the handling that differentiates one from the other? From the demo it appears that the gimmick is at least similar, if not the same.

Hi Anthony,

I think the gimmick is the same, simple version. I'll have to check the DVD out, though.

It seems that Jennings' "The Close Up Illusion" is the godfather of this concept. The reason I referenced "Larry Jennings on Cards and Coins" during the Saturday session is because there's a trick in there titled, "Look - an illusion." Sorry for the confusion. I guess the submarine card idea is on a video of Jennings. It's definitely not in "LJ On Cards and Coins."

Just looked at the Geoff Williams DVD. The first of the three phases is the Jennings original move. Geoff's second phase is a very visual one where you see the card melt through from the bottom to the center. It looks great. The third phase is another very visual melt through.

If you do the Jennings original, you might want to check out Geoff's, The "I Hate David Copperfield" Trick. Penguin has it for $20.

Rudy, this past session exemplified what is so great about TMF.  It was great to see the participants work together to solve different problems people were posing (including one issue I raised), and there were some cool tidbits I took away from watching different effects being performed.

Hey, Guys, thanks for sharing your videos.

Tom, I am glad to have access to the stuff you shared during the session. Really enjoyed it.

Wayne, good job. I agree that is awkward doing tricks solo! I am still getting used to it myself.

Thanks guys, I'd like to try and capture something live but I don't now how I am going to do the trick, film it and control the elephant which is standing by for my big finish.

Next time I have my friends over I'll see if I can do something that is more realistic.

I will move them and start a new thread over there. Maybe others might be able to add some of the items they shared?
