Hi Everyone,

I've been a busy boy, but have finally carved out some time for us to have a Saturday Session. Join us this weekend,  September 14 at 2pm (Pacific). Here is the information that you'll need to log into the Zoom video conference software and attend the session:

Topic: Saturday Session!
Time: Sep 14, 2019 at 02:00pm (Pacific)
Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/842954414
Meeting ID: 842 954 414

If you'd like to participate and have your video visible during the session, you'll need to have a camera and microphone installed on your computer. (Attendees will be given a video recording of the session).

In other news, I want to remind you that Harry Lorayne will be featured in upcoming episodes of Reel Magic Magazine's, "Apocalypse Now" (see the promo video below). It's only $5 to be a Reel Magic Magazine subscriber! So much great content for an unbelievably low price!

I hope that you'll take a minute and support this project by subscribing to Reel Magic at http://www.reelmagicmagazine.com

See you at our Saturday Session!

Awesome!  I'm in the middle of remodeling stuff in my basement.  I'll be busy doing that stuff, but I'll try to make it for even part of this session.  I look forward to seeing what ideas are shared.

See you there everyone. If you haven’t joined one of these sessions, do. They are superb. If possible have a little something to show. It’s all about the sharing.

Is it ok to attend without having a camera?

I do a ton of live meetings that are work-related, but none involve a camera, so just curious if that was ok.

Dave, you need a camera only if you want to show something. You're welcome to attend, watch, and participate by chat. Hope to "see" you there!

As someone who has attended a couple sessions from the chat box (off camera), it can feel a little like Statler and Waldorf commenting on the "main" show, but Rudy and others do a good job of incorporating relevant text comments into the video discussion. Definitely worth attending, in my judgment!

Audio I'm always setup with … just no camera on my main box

Anyone can attend this session and watch. It only requires a microphone and camera if you intend to participate and share. I keep my eye on the chat box in case anyone has questions. I look forward to seeing you all soon!

It was a great and very "controlling session" (pun intended) with many things shared... Can't wait for the next one...

Guys, if you have the chance, don't miss them, they are one of the great things about TMF...

Yep, thanks to all. And to those who didn't make it, don't be shy about joining. There's always good information exchanged and everyone is exceedingly nice.

Axel, you have some great advice and additional ideas!

Hi Tom,

very kind of you, thank you!
I am not just a card guy so I really like your addition to the rope-routine! Oh, just thinking about this, about 35 years ago (as a young teenager) I performed that routine in an open-air bath with the belt of my bath robe (gown(?)). Impromptu. That was quite entertaining and engaging, everyone around wanted to take part, but it had no really end or conclusion and with your addition it feels more complete to me . Thank you for sharing this!!

That was awesome -- and my first Saturday Session … already considering how I'd possibly get setup to contribute -- very casual and friendly vibe... totally enjoyed myself!

With regard to the chain -- I would highly recommend Pop Haydn's School for Scoundrels -- I have it, and it's very good.
Other resources I have for that I'd also recommend is Mark DeSouza's "Chain Gang" and the World's Greatest Magic video from L&L "Endless Chain"

So, chris w has conducted some research into the John Bannon force I demoed at the session. I've turned some pages myself, and have also emailed John for a clarification. Once I hear back from him I'll post chris's findings along with my own, and John's reply.

It was my first Saturday Session where I finally got Zoom to work and my ISP cooperated on giving me the bandwidth I needed. It was great and thanks to all. Can't wait for the video so I can revisit some of those moves.  😉

I have a list of all who attended, but don't have all of your emails.

If you attended, please let me know and I'll send you the link to the video recording.

Dave, if your computer does not have a camera, you can try getting a webcam. Nowadays they are not as expensive and the quality is not bad.

I recently got one for what would be about $60. I am sure you can get a better one much cheaper in the US.

This is the one I got and got it setup within Zoom but I didn't want to disturb the session by testing it in front of you. I hope I can have it tested before the next session to share with you like I used to (my computer camera works fine but the microphone setup is giving me a hard time, I cannot be heard and the new camera I got includes 2 microphones for stereo sound).

So I hope this helps. And I wish I had the very nice setup Mike Powers has, but I guess we can go one step at a time...

See you around my friend!

Gonna have some fun.

Rudy . . . is the recording only available to those that attended? In the past I thought you made the recording available to those of us that couldn't attend. Would love to watch it if you can make available.

Thx!

Thanks for that, I'll take a look at it.

I also need to figure out how to have a workable space here among my mess 😉

Hey, Mark. Rudy's original post (above) did specify that attendees would be provided the recording. Since you apparently wanted to attend but were unable, I will send you a link to the video shortly.

For anyone interested, my note to Anthony about what's now usually called the Christ-Cross Force is that it might be hard to track in the literature because Bannon seems to have started off calling it something else: "Bottom Bluff Force" on page 59 of Smoke and Mirrors, also shows up (Conjuring Archive says) on page 803 of Card College Volume 4. I don't have ready access to either of those sources, but was able to find it in Bannon's Cardzilla Is Coming notes from 1998 and confirm that it seems to be the same thing.

I understand Anthony has an email out to Bannon for clarification/confirmation.

Addendum: I just located the Christ-Cross Force, called that by Bannon, in High Caliber (republished from Six. Impossible. Things.) The difference seems to be that the Bottom Bluff Force is a force of the bottom card almost immediately after the cutting action, whereas the Christ-Cross Force is a force of the top card with a time delay after the cutting action (characteristic of the criss-cross force) and the flipping of the top packet face up on the lower followed by the spreading through face up cards to get to the first face-down card (characteristic of the Christ force).

By this definition, I believe some of the applications of the Christ-Cross Force I've seen by others are actually more like applications of the Bottom Bluff Force. The Christ part is the flipping of the packet and the spreading.

For those interested in such things!
