Hey! I've been doing my yearly reviewing of EATCT, haven't really been able to prepare anything. Although I'd love to share a monte routine that Dani DaOrtiz showed me. I've done it before at the session that didn't get recorded, so I'm not sure if people would be interested in that....

I've signed up and I hope to be there but I am doing a CodeMakers workshop with two groups of local schoolkids this afternoon and it may run long.

Hope to see you

For some reason, I cannot get on.  It just says "join us."  So sad.  I am sure I did something wrong.

Another great session, thanks Rudy!

Shame about everyone who couldn't get in, hopefully technical difficulties will be resolved by next session.

Sorry I also could not get on even though registered. Maybe Rudy can post a video recording of the session.

Hi Everyone,

I want to apologize to those who couldn't get into the session this afternoon and also to those who attended.

We had a fantastic time and we were shown some incredible magic. Irving Quant's work on the optical shuffle, Mike Powers showed us an excellent progressive elevator effect, Chi Han showed us an incredible trick that he learned from Dani DaOrtiz, and the list goes on.

Unfortunately, Business Hangouts failed me again. I'm paying quite a bit of money to ensure that I can have space for up to 100 participants. Everyone who registered should have been able to join us and yet, because of some technical error, you couldn't.

Not only that...the session didn't get recorded!!!!!!

I can't express to you how sorry and frustrated that I am over this. I apologize.

I'm speaking to the folks at EZ Talks to see if they can meet our needs. I used them for Paul Gordon's lecture and it worked very well.

I'll keep you guys posted and will need to do a test call with several of you to make sure that it works.

Again, I'm sorry for any inconvenience or frustration that you experienced with something that is intended to be fun.

Rudy

Rudy, did you use business hangouts? Because I seem to remember that the links for previous meetings said something along the lines of "https://business-hangouts.com/whatever..." and this time it did not have the "business" part in it. Maybe that is why we could not join and also it did not record the session. I am just guessing...

Hi Luis,

Yes, I followed all the usual steps to set up the call. There have been some recent issues that I believe haven't been resolved.

Here's what they sent me: "Current Issue - Third Party Apps are Not Working on Google Hangouts Currently - We believe this issue has to do with the new notification they added for support ending of Third Party Apps. Google Engineering has been alerted and we anticipate the problem will be corrected soon. We will update you daily until resolved."

I have to believe that this was the problem. Unfortunately, there always seems to be something wrong. My mic works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. Some people can have their video feed seen, sometimes they can't. It's so intermittent that I hold my breath every time I hit the "Go LIVE" button.

Ugh.

Rudy

Well Rudy, it is a glitch and it is not your fault, so no big deal about it. Next time we all get together we will make up for the session we missed. Relax and take it easy.

Agree with Luigimar.  This stuff happens all the time in the corporate world.  So... next time and Rudy thanks for putting this together.

Sorry to hear the recording didn't happen Rudy...stuff happens.

In regards to the ambitious move that I demonstrated, I just wanted to clear up the crediting on it.  It's from John Luka's book, "Secrets for the Part-Time Magician"  - which btw is a GREAT little book!

The move is actually a Ron Bauer move and John credits him accordingly in the book. It's called the "Screened Leipzing Pass"  (I am not sure if Leipzing is a typo or not, but that is how it's printed in the book.)
The changes that I made simply make it MUCH easier to hit.  I also feel that the face up option that I mentioned really adds some deception as well.

Since the session did not get recorded, if anyone has any questions or would like to see it again, just let me know.

Hey Craig, I would like to see it for the first time since I could not join the session. Could you make a video of it? Thanks!

The session was great fun. Thanks Rudy, as always, for all the hard work you do in setting up and MCing the session. Craig's demo of the Leipzig thing was very cool. Also, it was great to see Irving Quant there. I haven't seen Irving in years. I think it was clear to everyone that he's a real expert and has great chops. His switch was very cool. I've been playing with that and have some thoughts I'll share at the next get-together.

I was hoping to revisit his work on the Optical shuffle but Google errors put the kibosh on that. I think I can reconstruct it. If I come up short, maybe someone else can. It seems similar to what Jarred Kopf teaches on the Vanishing Inc. vid. I'll revisit that. I loved the Lennart G thing at the end. I was unaware of that little gem.

Just as I was exiting my browser, I noticed that a few were staying in contact. Luckily I was able to reenter the session. Irving showed a variation of my "Boston Massacre" routine that was very cool. He also showed his "Ramsay Coins and Cylinder" routine using five coins. It was first class indeed. Irving doesn't hang out much with magicians. We were very lucky to have had that time with him.

Many cool things were shown and taught during the session. I wish my memory was a bit sharper than it is....

Looking forward to the next session and to the upcoming book club get-together.

I have posted this as an unlisted file on my Youtube Channel.  Even though it's unlisted, I would rather not post the link here on the forum, so I will send it to you individually.  If anyone else is interested, just PM me and I will send you the link.

I wonder if Irving, Mike, Craig, Chi Han, and some of the others might be willing to have a quick session to cover what was lost. I can schedule it for Saturday at noon (Pacific).

There was some incredible stuff shown and I hate that it was lost. I heard about the extended session that I missed and wish I could've been there! Glad for those who were able to experience that.

Rudy

I can do that Rudy or I can make a video of the item I taught.

In trying to reconstruct Irving Q's Optical shuffle variant, I came up with a different handling that I think is interesting. I still wish I had the video from Irving. I wonder if he'll join the festivities again. I think he's pretty busy and may not have the time though.

A scheduled re-do would be terrific, Rudy.  I was in and out of the session due to a number of things I had to do Saturday afternoon, so I figured I would catch up with everything on the recording.  I would be happy to demonstrate what I did, too.  I stayed for the after-session and agree that Irving's Cylinder and Coins was terrific.

This is a great move - it just occurred to me that you could use the same technique to load a selected card between a pair of face up cards on top of the deck.
