Hey everyone,

I'm Chris. Longtime lurker, first-time poster.

I first got into magic in the mid '90s. I was active on a few forums and whatnot (MagicTalk, TSD, the beginnings of the green place), and attended the 2000 and 2001 A-1 conventions near Sacramento, where I was thrilled to stalk guys like Martin Nash, Jerry Andrus, and Herb Zarrow around the hotel lobby without saying much, just to see what they'd do or impart. Since they're gone now, I'm glad I took the chance when I had it.

Eventually, my interest waned a bit. I've been back at it for the past few years, albeit with more emphasis on studying and mucking about than actually performing for people. So, I should probably perform for people more, I guess. Though it's also kinda fun to sit around with a stopwatch, seeing how quickly you can faro a deck back into order.

(The house has many rooms and all that.)

All for now. Look forward to seeing some of you around campus now that I have an account.

Chris

Welcome, Chris! Jump right in and be a part of the discussions here. If you are really interested in getting some performance experience, check out this thread, started by EVILDAN http://www.themagiciansforum.com/post/performing-for-the-public-the-5-tricks-in-1-week-challenge-9285521

It inspired many of us to get out there and expand our performing horizons, and it may do the same for you!

Welcome Chris

Lots of space here for people who like to read and study and perfect arcane skills ... and a ton of support and positive feedback for people who want to ease into performing more often.  Check out some of the conversations started by Ken Theriot for example.

welcome aboard buddy, i am in a similar position as you, hadn't been back into magic in years, until recently. Now trying to go full force, I am also a musician, and run some open mics at some venues, so i just started throwing in some magic and have got great responses. if theres any advice i can give to start really performing. Pick one great trick you love, and be able to do the trick without even thinking about it. Have it down soo well, practice in the mirror if its angle sensitive, and then go out and perform that One trick to different people. it leaves them wanting more, so then the next week or so u have another trick u practiced down soo well that u dont even have to think about it. Sooner or later, u will have a smorgasbord of tricks you can do well 😉. Anyways, enjoy the forum buddy, great to have ya!
