Hey New Friends,

Just thought I'd take a moment and intro myself.

I'm a commercial photographer in Texas that has had a penchant for magic since age 12. I learned the old-fashioned way. Got a mentor when I was perusing the shelves at a magic shop. He took me under his wing, let me borrow any books, magazines, tricks that I wanted. And we met together on Saturdays to show what I learned.

Went on the road at age 16 as an assistant for a traveling magician. And occasionally would get the stage to myself.

My magical stylings now lean more toward the mentalism side. And minimalist. I want my magic to look real. But my favorite thing is simply taking chances. As a mentalist, it's ok to fail every now and then. And I take full advantage of that. If I have to have my predicted selection chosen from 4 items, why not just let fate step in and see if they choose it without any forcing. If it works, it's more than a miracle. If it doesn't, I simply more into an out.

So, that's where I'm at. Always looking to learn. Thanks for the chance to say hi!

Welcome to TMF Mark! There is a lot to learn here...very interesting background you have, going on the road at that age, very few have done that.

I was once watching Bob little performing at a magic convention.  He started by randomly taking one card out of a deck, asked the spectator to think of one card.  And it was the card Mr Little was holding in his hand.  It was a miracle.   We all stood there with our mouths open.  Because it was basically a room full of magicians he simply stopped and explained that he always starts with this trick, and it is always wrong card, ( the shtick is just a set u for the rest of the routine) and here for the first time ever it just happened to be the right card.  So now where do you go?  It is very hard to continue when a miracle is your opening.

Take a bow and walk away. LOL. I love that! Thanks for sharing that!

I've got a simple effect that I do with 4 biz cards and a "you'll pick this card" on the back of one. I do a few things that direct them to the card, but it's really a bit of a game of chance with a lil' Derren Brown thrown in for good measure. I've done the effect about 1000 times and the spectator hits about 75% of the time on the first choice. That's good enough for me and makes for a minor miracle. Magician's choice my way out if it doesn't.

I have a card magician friend who's a perfectionist that is driven insane by my effect. He gets so nervous about it. But I love it!
