Hello there magical perpetrators ....

We got such a wonderful response when our inaugural TMF Parade was print in The Linking Ring several months ago!! I received the go-ahead from editor Sammy Smith to forge ahead with the sequel!!

PART TWO of the TMF PARADE is a go!!!

As before, we have about 10,000 words to play with (we were a teensy bit over last time). It worked out well, last time collating about 10 - 12 tricks for the Parade. Although, as long as we didn't exceed the word count significantly, we could stuff in a few more

So here's the ask ... we need a fabulous trick of yours described and explained (search for the PDF of the last Parade and you'll see how we organized it). Card tricks are OK, but we'd prefer NON-CARD tricks (or cards used in a non-card way). Anything goes, close-up, parlor, stage, online.

There were a few people who wanted to participate last time but couldn't get their tricks to us in the time allotted ... we'd love to have LOTS of names.

I will be happy to edit and format as before. The fabulous Tony Dunn will be lined up to take photos you have taken and turn them into his wonderful illustrations.

It's time to be famous again!!!!

If you have a great trick to bring to the Parade, type it, shoot a picture or two if needed and email it to me (mbreggarmagic@gmail.com) or Rudy. Anyone else willing to help in selecting and editing, etc. post here!

Timeline:  I'd love to see if we can get this published by years' end. This means we will need your tricks no later than September 15th.

Any thoughts, ideas, themes, ideas ... post 'em here!

I am certain, as great as our first Parade was, this one will be even better!!

Mike,

I have a great (to me, anyway) sleeve aces routine, that i'd contribute. I would like to know if i'd be able to obtain a physical copy of the magazine, if the routine were to be published?

I can send photos, video and write up of the routine , as i've kept the routine under wraps for a while now.....

Hi Justin, we were able to get full issue copies on PDF. We tried to get physical copies. I’ll keep on trying , but at least you’ll have the full PDF

And if you have a great effect, let’s see it!!

Mike,

Could I email you a video description and THEN have it written up/edited by you and Tony?

Would love to see the vid but would hope you’d do the first draft write-up a la EFFECT and the EXPLANATION. Take a look at the structure we used in the last one (do a search for it in the Forum)

I can do clean up of the draft.

Looks like during the last parade, card tricks were considered better aimed for Mike Powers’ column. Is that still the case?

Also, are these supposed to be tricks aimed to fool magicians, or just tricks magicians can use in their acts? I have some relatively simple (and short!), but I think strong, card tricks that will not fool anyone reading TLR but should get a good reaction from an audience.

AmazingStanley ... we should ALWAYS be emphasizing good, strong, audience pleasing magic over just stuff to fool magicians; though that's been a marketing ploy for decades!

Regarding card tricks, we had several in the last go-round, but we specifically wanted to point card trick lovers to Mike's column!

Having said that ... send us your best audience pleaser ... Card trick or not ... !

Good, because my humble creations will fool no wise magi! 🙃. One little effect I came up will blow no minds but will pretty much guarantee a moment of surprise. “Hey wait a minute...”

Thanks for your encouragement; I will drop you a line.

Hey ... If the presentation is structured properly, a little surprise becomes suddenly very magical!

What is the protocol/etiquette as far as showing a trick before it is submitted to a Parade, or maybe Mike’s column? I’d like to bounce a few things off other magicians like here in the Session Room, but if I then wanted to submit it, I know a publisher would rather have something no one has seen before. I’m not talking about putting it on YouTube, just bouncing ideas off other magicians in a private forum. So basically how much can something be “out there” and still be considered for publication?

We’re a pretty informal and certainly a friendly group.  I’m sure many would be happy to brainstorm with you on this. just PM them and ask! the effect or sleight need not be wholly original, but it does need to have a prominent originality component it. (Performing an effect with a red deck instead of blue does not qualify as “prominent”!  And be sure to provide proper crediting!

perhaps Rudy or others have some input here?
