Is anyone going to the Trics Close Up Convention in NC in November?
http://tricsconvention.com/

It will be the only convention I'm going to this year.

I'm on the bubble. I want to go, but haven't yet committed. I know I need to make up my mind soon...

I'm registered. Hope to see you guys there. It's a great little convention. This will be my third time.

Do it Anthony! You'll have a great time.

It'll be my first time at this one, I considered going last year but then it sold out. I must admit, to cut down on cost I'm not stopping at the convention hotel. I'm travelling up with my wife and we're stopping in Greenville SC a few nights first to check out a few waterfalls near there 😉 Booked in at Microtel in Charlotte a 5 minute drive away from the convention.

Alright, indecision over. I've registered and look forward to seeing y'all there! Like Paul, I may not stay at the convention hotel. Got points at Marriot properties and there're a couple nearby. Save some money to spend in the dealer's room! [biggrin]

Anyone else?!

The website is at: http://www.tricsconvention.com

TALENT: David Stone, Wayne Houchin, Marc Oberon, Mario Lopez, Jason Ladanye, Christian Engblom, Erik Tait

Scott runs a very tight convention. Event start on time and end on time. He doesn't tolerate "Do you guys want to see more?? Look Scott, they want more..." He tells the lecturers and performers this rule up front and he enforces it. The lectures are 1 hour in length.

The last show's audience is about half lay people. This allows the performers to show the magicians how they handle and perform for a lay audience. I think only those who registered somewhat early are in the room. The others see the show on CCTV in the room adjoining the convention room. This show is 2 hours in length.

There are not too many dealers. Many of the dealers only have a few products. Card Shark is generally there. Michael Kamiskas is often there. Pattrick P (the close-up pad guy) is generally there.

There are likely some heavy hitters who are just attending too.

It's really fun!

Sounds great. Really looking forward to it now that I've committed. One of those conventions that I've considered for years, but always found convenient excuses not to attend even though it's relatively close by.

Bumping this up in case anyone else has decided to attend since the last post in August. If so, be sure to track your fellow TMFers down!

The convention was fantastic! Great lectures and shows as well as hanging with some TMF members  - Anthony Vinson, Tommy Ellison and Paul Hallas. Great to meet these guys. Mario Lopez was a standout, but all the talent was stellar IMO. The final show featured Eric Tait, Christian Engblom, Jason Ladanye, Marc Oberon, Wayne Houchin, Mario Lopez and David Stone - a tremendous variety pack of styles and material.

I'm with Mike. TRICS was a fantastic convention. Intimate, familial, and fun. I also found Mario Lopez to be the standout performer. I had almost zero knowledge of the guy, and am now a fan. He's edgy, creative, and a true performer. Hanging out with Mike, Paul, and Tommy was cool, putting three-dimensional personalities to those previously online relationships really solidified what great guys they are.

As for TRICS, I am grateful that Mike gave the kick in the seat of the pants required to convince me to register. Scott Robison and Sleight Club understand how a magician's convention should work. Rigidly regulated schedules, seating with great views, lots of talents, and plenty of time to hang out and session. I'll definitely be back to TRICS.

Paul Hallas has written a new book, and generously provided me with a copy to review here on TMF. Look for it - my review - in a couple of weeks once I've had the chance to absorb the material. I will tell you that Paul performed a couple of effects from the book and they fooled me bad. Plus they were highly entertaining. I'll post the review soon!

A great convention for close uppers. Must admit, I too had not heard of Mario Lopez, certainly a bit different. Some great magic performed, some of my favorite effects were by Christian Engblom and Marc Oberon. I hadn't realized Stone was so funny.😉  And then there was these guys.... This was the first evening. Didn't realize Tommy was there too until the final evening when we all went out for a meal.001.jpg
