I inherited a deck, hand-numbered on the back.

25 cards are numbered 27, and appear randomly mixed.
The rest are numbered irregularly 1 - 52. No duplicates in this group.

Does anyone recognize what illusion this preparation is for?

I think this is an old John Bannon trick. I’ll check my old truck box tomorrow and let you know

Might be Bannon's DeTour de Force.

Yes, Mike! That’s the name. Haven’t dug it out yet to check. It was a fun trick too. If I recall it was printed on Hoyle cards (not Bikes)

I have the deck, but no instructions.
Where can I find the method?

If you read the explanation here, you might be able to figure out the method.

I don't think it is Detour De Force.

The cards for the Bannon trick aren't just numbered on the back, it is the names of cards that are written/printed (a large "J" then a heart, for the Jack of hearts etc).
There are also three "proving" cards which are different from the rest.

On another site I'm a member of, someone mentioned a trick similar to the one mentioned here - and while it wasn't Detour De Force, the methods were almost identical.

I'll see if I can find the thread, and if the trick is named.

Hi Duke, my apologies for the delay.

I managed to find the thread, but alas, it wasn't your deck that was described at all - it was a different deck, constructed almost exactly as in the Bannon trick. For some reason I thought it was the same deck as yours, that was discussed.

Anyway, from your description, the purpose of the deck would appear to be to force the number twenty seven. Although, I don't know the actual trick it's used for.
