Hi, I'm looking for an effect to make a full deck of cards disappear.
I know there are a few options but nothing I've come across has fit what I'm looking for.
I was tempted to purchase 52 Gone, but after the multitude of negative reviews I saw, decided against it, as I am not a rich man.
Can anyone point my in the direction of something similar and worth spending money on if necessary?
I would be eternally grateful.

The Paul Harris vanishing deck gimmick is very cool. It may not suit your purpose. You're left with a single card after a very visual vanish.

You can check out Panic by Aaron Fisher. I've seen him perform this on his Penguin lecture and it was amazing.

In Gary Ouellet's mini book Threshold there is a very nice way of vanishing a full deck of playing cards.

You need to be sitting down at a table to do it.http://www.camirandmagic.com/mm01_5.html

Best,

what exactly are you looking for though? What context? Will you be surrounded? Do you want to do it without a gimmick? etc...

I posted “A Study in Frustration  Again” on the Perverse Magic thread of the Genii Forum on March 1, 2008. Here’s the effect:

1          The magician tells the audience that they’re in for a treat. They have probably seen magicians find a selected card or maybe two selected cards but never this. He gives the deck to spectator and says, “Take out any 51 cards and give me the rest of the deck.”  The spectator smiles, realizes what’s going on and gives the magician back one card.

The magician explains that the spectator should remember his selected cards but he doesn’t have to remember the card he didn’t select the (say) 4C.

The magician shuffles the unselected card in with all the selected cards and says he’s going to find all the selected cards.

2          The magician cuts the deck and says he’s going to cut to – the KH. But, to his surprise, it’s the 4C. The 4C is shuffled back into the deck.

3          The magician says he will get the 9D fifth card down. He counts down but  alas, it’s the 4C.

4          The magician names the JH and spells it but again on the last letter it’s the 4C.

5          The magician is getting frustrated. He takes out a handkerchief and puts the deck underneath. He says he will find the 2H but again he gets the 4C.

6          He has an idea. He won’t put the 4C back into the deck. Now it can’t screw him up. He leaves the 4C on the table and reaches under the handkerchief to get the JH but – but – the deck has vanished.

If this vanish of a deck is what you are looking for just look this up.

David Williamson's 51 Cards to Pocket has long been one of my favorites. The final disappearance is so bold, one might not believe it will work. I've performed this routine more than one hundred times in many different environments and it absolutely kills. I also recommend Gregory Wilson's take on Cards to Pocket in Pyrotechnic Pasteboards, a DVD loaded with terrific routines.

Dani DaOrtiz has just published LAP, his work (and other people's) on a technique that could help you in this effect. But someone already asked about the situation where you want to do it. If you won't be sitting, this information may not work for you...

Sorry about the confusion.
I should have been more specific.
I want to do it from a standing position.
I'd like to be able to be surrounded but that isn't as important.
Wearing a jacket is no problem because I often wear a jacket anyway.
Thankso for all the replies!
I'm already looking into a few of these.

If you're already wearing a jacket then a topit is a good option.

I belive I'm gonna get the Topit 180 and give it a shot.
Again, I didn't want to spend that much money until I had someone back it up for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, Bulla.

I like the in a napkin deck vanish used in John Carney's "Final Trace," which is described in Carneycopia.

David Regal's "Disposable Deck." May be worth checking out. The deck doesn't actually disappear but, instead, it's balled up and thrown away.

The gimmick might be adapted to a vanishing deck somehow?

One idea I had long ago in this regard was to have a deck with a small hole drilled completely through the deck near the inner right corner. There would be a mono-filament thread like thin fishing line going through the hole and then pinned at the shoulder of your jacket. The deck could be spread etc and you could even devise a rising card or haunted deck effect using the thread. Then, via a pendulum type vanish, the deck can be made to disappear as it simply swings back into your jacket.

I second the Williamson 51 Cards to Pocket method. Like Stevie Ray, I've done this many times over the last 15 years or so, messed it up a couple of times, and yet still have not been caught. Bold, yes, but easy to do.

Also--I 2nd Final Trace from Carneycopia. Very fun trick to do

Larry Jennings did a 51 cards to pocket effect but instead of making the deck "vanish" so to speak he had two cards selected and returned to the deck.  He pulled one from his pocket and then to find the other card he squeezed the deck and all the cards vanish except for the selection.  I can't remember what book it's in but you can find it on his Thoughts on Cards video.

Not certain what you mean by "back it up for me", but you can buy a topit pattern pretty cheap and have someone sew one up for you. Pretty simple really.

Look at Matthew Dowdens DVD set called party animal. He has a couple routines where he boldly dumps his cards all into his jacket. It's a beautiful move I've used for years and fun to get away with.

Another bold move i have used to vanish a deck is to do the old trick where you have the deck in your hand with a chosen card on top, cover your hand with a handkerchief, and you appear to make the chosen card rise out of the deck.Under cover of the handkerchief, downjog the top chosen card so you can get your right pinky underneath it (through the handkerchief) lay your right index finger on top of the handkerchief and deck,do the well known thing where the card (and handkerchief ) appears to rise into the air, your right pinky on the bottom and index finger on top of  the single chosen card through the handkerchief.Under cover of this the left hand dumps the deck into the left pocket.i hope I have  explained it well enough.
