Magicana has posted a link to Dai Vernon - The Spirit of Magic.  A documentary that was produced for Canadian TV by magician and filmmaker Daniel Zuckerbrot and David Ben.

While the film was very well received, it was only available briefly for purchase as a VHS cassette, which was subsequently pirated. The film pops up regularly online, always low-quality copies of copies shared without any credit to those who made the project possible.

Heres the link to the Magicana web site where you can watch the whole documentary (45 minutes).  This is a clean copy from the broadcast master.  Its a fantastic watch

Ian, thanks for the link. Definitely worth watching.

I live in Ottawa and I am not aware of any recognition that the city has accorded Dai Vernon. [confused]   No park or street or building that I am aware of bears his name. Also I don't believe he even received an Order of Canada.

Awesome! It is really cool to be able to learn about his life and background. He was so influential to magic!

Vernon's childhood home still exists at 88 MacLaren Street.  Perhaps some Ottawa magicians could start the drive for a Historical plaque.

I am often downtown and will try and walk by.

One would think if we can find room for a statue of Simon Bolivar (no sure of his Ottawa connection) a modest plaque for Dai Vernon should be possible.

Wayne,

If you are looking for Vernon's house, here's a thread on Vernon that Ian started a while ago.  I posted a message there with a link to Google Street View of what I think is the house.
