For those of you who missed Dorian's lecture, the link to the video recording of his lecture (2 hrs) is $5.

Dorian wants all of the money to go to those who are less fortunate. We run a severe weather shelter for the homeless here in Forest Grove, Oregon. The money will go toward sleeping bags and blankets for them.

Please send payment to rudyt@isonrise.com and you'll get a private link to the video.

Also, if you liked what you saw of Dorian's magic, you can get more of it here...

Thanks again, Dorian!! You're one of the good guys!

Rudy

Dorian put on a great lecture.  Definitely something for everyone, and a secret about using a hot rod to get booked.  At only $5 it's a win-win.

Thanks Tom!

By the way, if anybody is interested in reading about the way that we're trying to meet the needs of the homeless in our community...here's a little article.

Yes, that was great fun! His take on Michael Skinners "3-Card-Monte", his Multiple-Top-Palm-Technique and to me,
although I am more of a Cardguy, his Coins Across and Spellbound Routines are something I will give a try because the were really looking quite natural and have fooled me. And besides that you get professional thoughts on approaching a group, spectator handling and character-building, thoughts of Larry Jennings, Paul Chosse, Bruce Cervon and Ron Bauer, too. As Tom stated, it´s a win-win.

..oooh, forgot to mention his Dorians take on Roy Waltons "Oil and Queens". Nice one, too! You will use it!

Thank you Dorian for spending so much time with us!  It was a great mix of effects, theory, and utility moves.  I learned some coin work as well, that with practice, will be a great addition to my slowly growing repertoire.

Ah, If I had known I would have finished watching this yesterday [frown] Probably more than worth the $5 though, and for a good cause!
Thanks Dorian and Rudy for doing this

Hello,
Just started watching this. Dorian's version Michael Skinners "3-Card-Monte" kills. Fooled me and I know how it works. I was disappointed that no one asked the obvious question. Hoping Dorian is reading this. With any gaffed packet trick, you have to consider what to do if the spec(s) want to examine the cards.
There are many answers running from switching out the gaffs to "Don't worry about it. Just move on". Curious what Dorian does or if if he even considers this worrying about.
Later,
D

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the lecture! I'll ask Dorian if he'll answer your question.

The short answer; I've constructed the routine so that not only am I always in complete control, but the script eliminates any conflict between you and the audience. Even on the off chance conflict does arise, I have simple outs to get back on track.
It's hard to explain by writing this so maybe some of us can do a session where I can go into depth about it?

I was very interested in that article. There are a lot of homeless people in Toronto and the winter temperatures here are often below freezing point with lots of snow on the ground. It breaks my heart every time I see it.

Thanks for taking time to read the article, Mark.

Homelessness breaks my heart too.

A fine idea but that would probably be up to Rudy Tinoco. Got to admit I'm very curious about what you have in store.

Unfortunately, we never got around to it. Steve Dobson joined in and we talked about other things after walking him through the technical difficulties that he had setting up.

We can do another session next week if that works.

Thanks!

Well give me some lead time and I'll be there. Very curious as to what you've come up with. This topic, I think, is important. It may seem very esoteric but these details can make quite a difference.

As Dorian said, most of the call was he and I trying to get Steve Dobson's camera set up.

It ended up being a great session though! Steve and Dorian demonstrated a very cool lapping technique, Steve taught us a great packet trick called Aces to Jacks" and then he demonstrated an unpublished item of Ed Marlo's where he shuffled a group of red cards into a group of black cards, but they remained separated. I have not idea how he did that!

Dorian has his DVD's for sale at just 10 bucks. Steve Dobson has some lecture notes available too. The packet trick that he showed us is in those notes.

Straykat, subscribe to the Online Session topic and you'll get an email when a session is scheduled.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear about what I meant when I asked you to subscribe to the topic.

There is a small button on the lower, left-hand side of any topic in the forum that allows you to receive an email when anyone post in that area.

If you want to be notified of future online video sessions, you can subscribe to the Online Sessions topic in the Session Room.

Please let me know if you need me to clarify anything.
