Can someone remind me how to shuffle in order not to disturb the cards as set up for Harry's Startler? I can't seem to remember or find it :-P.

There are plenty of shuffles to do the trick.  In the book Harry has the four cards on top, then double cuts the necessary cuts into position.  At that point I'm guessing you could use any false jog shuffles such as the optical shuffle, or a full deck false jog shuffle such as the one in Erdnase, there are plenty of others.  You could also use a combination of an injog and an outjog to retain top and bottom stock (under cut 3/4 of the deck injog one card, shuffle balance on top, before you get to the last bit of the packet throw it on top to outjogged, undercut below the outjog at the same time using your thumb to get a break at the injog.  Then shuffle to the break).  You could also just keep the cards at the bottom instead of the top, that way you would only have to displace one card.

Gah! Information overload. But I THINK I figured something out based on that :-P. I looked back at CC1 for controlling a bottom stock. If all 4 were there, then I could shuffle off one card from the bottom at the end to get one on top.

I was just thinking that Harry recommended something specific that I just didn't remember.

Thanks. OK, so walking through it - you do a jog shuffle, which maintains all 4 cards on top, is that right? Then in order to do a double undercut to get 3 on the bottom, you'd have to get a break under the top 3 first, right? Then DUC?
