Hi Guys. Um, Bill gave me some notes to use to introduce him, but I'm not sure where I put them. I haven't actually seen him do any magic, oh yeah, he's supposed to be a magician. As I say, I haven't seen him do any tricks, but he says he's pretty good.
Now I warned Bill that you guys are really smart so you won't be easy to fool, but he doesn't seem to be worried. So, let's see if he can make us all look like idiots. Here he is, um, Bill Gaines.

Someone, I think it was Rich Marotta, told a story about what could be the worst into of all time. The CEO got up to introduce the magician and began by telling everyone that this would be his last company dinner. He had contracted AIDS and wouldn't live another year. He cried a bit and said that he had loved working with the group.... and now for our magician, Rich Marotta....

Try texting and/or emailing your intro to the organizer and the emcee, if you can get their name and number. I've found that works far better than notes these days.

Hi Bill.

Welcome.  Glad to see that after 200 posts, you are finally comfortable with introducing this Bill person to us.

Tom

Personally, I don't see the problem.

At least they didn't mention that you used to work at Anthropologie.

(How did the performance go, Bill?)

After too many MC’s botching my name & credentials, I finally resorted giving them a cue-card which read:

“Ladies and gentlemen, once in a lifetime, a great magician comes along to amaze and astound you …... While we’re waiting, here’s Arthur Stead!”

Last week I attended a lecture by Andy Gladwin.  He related a story about an introduction he received at a recent magic lecture.  "Ladies and Gents, he's a master magician, and owner of Vanishing Inc, please give a warm welcome to Joshua Jay".  Ouch!

John, that's a tough one.  I can't speak for anyone else, but here is what I would do.  After the introduction I would look at the audience, look down and take a deep breath and then say, "Folks, it is very difficult to follow something like that.  However, I was invited to attend your function and to provide some entertainment.  I feel I have to honor my commitment.  Perhaps it will serve as a temporary diversion.  I trust it will."
